The Generation Squeeze campaign is powered by a network of partners determined to ensure younger generations have a chance.

Are you feeling squeezed by stalled wages that don’t keep pace with skyrocketing costs for housing, childcare, transportation and education? You are not alone. Generation Squeeze is a campaign aimed at helping solve the growing squeeze on time, income and services for Canadians under 45.

Declining wages, a skyrocketing cost of living, and an imbalance in public investment mean Canadians under 45 are getting squeezed like never before. They are struggling to cope with scarce time, money and services.

The “squeeze” means this generation is:

Delaying careers
Accepting jobs that rarely contribute to retirement
Working more hours than their parents did
Working twice as many years to save for a down payment on a home
Postponing starting their own homes/families
Experiencing their children struggling due to family stress

Business members, community leaders, and other supporters gathered Feb. 23 to celebrate and raise funds for the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House at its ninth annual Diamond Ball Gala. Some sponsors who made this event possible were the Burnaby NewsLeader, Intracorp Projects Ltd., Sweet Beginnings, Allegra Print and Imaging, Burnaby Board of Trade, Investors Group Financial Services Inc., Burnaby Firefighters’ Charitable Society, Skoah, HollyNorth Production Supplies, and Indian Arm Recreational Services Ltd. The Firefighters’ Club Banquet and Conference Centre hosted the Under Sea Fantasy evening while Scotiabank matched funds raised through the annual diamond draw, and the silent and live auctions.

This year, Trio Diamond & Gold Jewellery generously donated a breathtaking three-piece Tahitian pearl-and-diamond pendant with a chain and matching Tahitian pearl drop earrings valued at over $3,562. Andrew Masse from the Business Development Bank of Canada was the lucky winner of this year’s diamond set.
